5 different ways to use video to market your business

A good video that’s well thought through and professionally shot and edited can be a great investment for your business.

If... you’re clear about your aims and realistic about your budget, the chances are you’ll end up with an effective tool to market your brand or business.

Producing an engaging film is one thing, but people often ask me: “Once I’ve got a video how can I use it, other than simply on my website?” Good question. I hope this blog will give you a few ideas.

Taunton Deane promotional film

A video I recently produced as part of a multi-media campaign for Taunton Deane’s inward investment initiative was launched at a well-attended business breakfast.

To reach people outside the region, particularly commuters who may consider relocating to Somerset or developing their business there, the film was also shown for a month on intercity trains from London - resulting in lots of new leads.

Not everyone has the budget for that kind of promotion, but here are some other low-cost suggestions to help you make the most of a business video:

1. Social media

Use the power of YouTube, Twitter, Facebook, Google+ and LinkedIn to get your video out to people who may not have visited your website. It’s quick and easy to add video content to social networking sites and if the content’s interesting and not too long it’s likely to get shared around.

2. An alternative presentation

Whether you’re making a presentation to a potential client, speaking at a conference, putting yourself forward for an award, or pitching for funding, a video can make a lasting impression! Make sure yours creates the right impression though - this is not the time to cut corners and try to do something on the cheap! A short video filmed on your phone may be okay occasionally for a quick social media post but it doesn’t say “professional” and “quality”.

3. Instead of a brochure

How often do you throw a brochure in the bin without even opening it? When someone asks for information, wouldn't it be far better to send them a link to an engaging video? It not only saves on paper, expensive printing costs, deliveries and postage, it also makes you stand out from the competition and shows you have your finger on the pulse. Obviously there are other benefits - your customers get to see who you are and get a more personal introduction to your products or services. Win, win.

4. Use it as a footer to emails

By simply adding a video link to your email you can share it easily with customers and potential customers without bombarding them with “hard-sell”. By adding a simple line like “Find out what’s new” or “See our new services”, you are simply sharing with them something extra which only takes a click for them to view.

5. Draw people to a trade stand

This is another opportunity many exhibitors miss! It makes your stand so much more interesting than the one next door (assuming they haven’t got a decent video). You need to bear in mind that there may be a lot of background noise in the venue making the audio hard to hear, so think graphics and simple text on screen so the message isn’t lost.

Hope that gives you some fresh ideas!
