Devon Venus Awards 2014: we've been nominated

It's somehow perceived as terribly "un-British" to give yourself a public pat on the back but, particularly when you're self-employed and run a small business, I think you need to celebrate those occasional opportunities for a spot of self-congratulation...

Working for yourself can sometimes be a bit isolating and you can begin to question whether you are, in fact, delivering a valued service so it's always lovely when clients show their appreciation for the work you've done, particularly when they nominate you for an award!

So I'm delighted to say that If... Media has been nominated in this year's Devon Venus Awards (http://www.venusawards.co.uk/) in the categories of best Small Business, Home Based Business and New Media and Online Business. I, personally, have also been nominated for Inspirational Woman and Influential Woman!

I'm very pleased to say that I've also made it through to the quarter finals of the Devon Venus Business Mother of the Year. That particular category is decided by a public vote based on a short video, which I'm due to record next week. If I make it through to the semi finals, I hope you'll vote for me!

The Venus Awards began in Dorset in 2009 with the aim of recognising women for all their achievements, whether that's their role in the community, as mums, or in the world of business. The awards have since grown to embrace a number of counties and cities.

In Devon, semi-finalists in most of the categories for 2014 will be announced next week. Obviously, I'll be delighted if I make it through in any one category. In the meantime, I'm very happy just to have received the nominations.

Wish me luck!
