Pause for thought during a break from copywriting

Being a freelance copywriter/video producer/pr has lots of benefits. One of the biggest, for me, is being able to do work which demands the most brain power at the time of day when I know I’m most productive. It’s not always possible, of course, if I’m on location filming or doing an edit but writing at home is a much more flexible affair…

I’ve just taken an extended break from the keyboard to look at some lovely pictures of my sons. I’ve been sifting through all the shots we’ve taken of them over the last year to select the best dozen for a photo calendar.

It’s something I’ve done as a Christmas gift to grandparents and godparents for the last five years or so. Few of them live nearby so it’s a nice way to share some of the fun things the boys have done and to show how they’ve changed since last year.

But it struck me that putting the calendar together is a little gift to me too – a chance to cherish some of the memorable moments we’ve had as a family!

The weeks before Christmas are a busy time for most people, particularly parents.  It sometimes seems as though we spend them blindly charging towards the next item on our “to do” list - presents to shop for, cards to write, festive events and performances to attend. Sometimes it’s hard to find the time to just enjoy the moment or to stop and reflect on another year drawing to a close.

2012 has been a special year for me. I set up my video production and communications company If… Media Ltd. last November. Since then I’ve met some great people, some of whom have become clients, some friends, some both. So before I get too bogged down in all the festive preparations, I’d like to take a moment to say thank you to anyone who’s helped me on my way by using my services, sharing expertise or words of wisdom, giving me testimonials or just plain old encouragement. Setting up and running my own business has been a steep learning curve and, most of the time, a lot of fun!

(By the way, I’ll be ordering a desk top version of the calendar for myself!)
