Was there a memorable moment that changed your life?

British figure skaters Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean returned to Sarajevo yesterday to recreate the memorable Bolero routine which won them gold at the Winter Olympics 30 years ago - with full marks for artistic impression, a feat never achieved before or since.

With the 2014 Winter Olympics now underway in Sochi, the pair said they were honoured to be invited back to perform in an arena that for them represents "hallowed ground".

Christopher Dean said, "You don't realise how a certain day in your life can impact on the rest of your life. That day changed our lives forever and will always be in our hearts and our memories, not just for that day but for the life it gave us."

It’s not the usual kind of topic I blog about, but it set me wondering about the memorable moments that change our lives for ever…

For me, as a Mum, that day was undoubtedly the birth of my sons on May 20th 2005. Life has certainly never been the same since our twin “bundles of joy” came into the world - bringing all the happiness and laughter of parenthood, as well as its challenges and occasional frustrations! Having children also made me reassess what was important to me and led to my decision to leave broadcasting to set up my own business, If… Media.

Of course, we all take decisions every day which have a big impact on our lives - what and where we choose to study, the jobs we take (or turn down), where we live, and the relationships we have. Even journeys and encounters which may at the time seem insignificant have the potential to alter the course of our lives.

I’ve recently completed a copywriting project for well-being mentor, advisor and consultant Polly Bateman Polly has a passion for helping people improve their lives - they may be dealing with a particular trauma or event, or be relatively content with their lot but want to make their life even better.  Writing for Polly made me think about how we respond to what life throws at us, why we choose one path over another, and what motivates people to set off in a new direction. It also made me think about what makes our lives memorable.

So I throw it open to you… Have you had a “Bolero” moment which has changed your life forever? Why was it memorable and how did it alter the course of your life? And what were you doing 30 years ago?
